Denali Education Center

The Northern Valley Health Coalition extends a heartfelt thank you to Kellie from the Talkeetna Campus of the Denali Education Center for her enlightening presentation on the incredible work and programs provided by their organization. As a non-profit educational partner of Denali National Park and Preserve, the Denali Education Center (DEC) has been fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world since its inception in 1989.

About the Denali Education Center

With two locations—one in Denali Park and another in Talkeetna—the DEC operates within the traditional lands of the Ahtna, Dena’ina, Koyukon, Kuskokwim, and Tanana peoples. The center’s mission is clear: to connect people with Denali through fun, informative, and inspiring programs. Whether it’s a youth day camp, a multi-day backcountry expedition, or an expert-led Road Scholar program, the DEC offers a range of opportunities for participants of all ages and abilities to explore and learn about this majestic landscape.

  • Denali Office: 401 Hamlet Road, Milepost 231 Parks Highway Denali Park, AK 99755 Phone: 907.683.2597

Fostering Connections to Nature

The DEC’s programs are designed to cultivate a personal connection to Denali National Park and Preserve. From educating participants about the unique subarctic ecology to offering immersive experiences in nature, the DEC inspires a love for the land that extends beyond the boundaries of the park. The center also provides a wealth of educational materials, accessible both before and after your visit, that focus on Denali and its global significance.

Partnerships and Support

The success of the Denali Education Center is deeply rooted in the support of its partners and the community. Through generous donations and funding, the DEC is able to offer scholarships to youth who wish to participate in their programs but may be financially constrained. This commitment ensures that finances do not become a barrier for any child eager to explore and learn from the natural world.

Explore Denali with Us

The DEC's dedication to connecting people with Denali doesn’t stop with in-person experiences. Their virtual programs provide unique opportunities to learn about Denali from the comfort of your home. Whether you’re curious about the “Rock Rabbits” of Denali or the amphibians that thrive in the subarctic environment, the DEC’s Natural History Notes, compiled by Denali naturalist Nan Eagleson, offer fascinating insights into the park’s diverse ecosystem.

Get Involved

For over thirty years, the Denali Education Center has been a beacon of environmental education and stewardship. We encourage families to reach out to the DEC to learn more about their programs, events, and educational opportunities. Sign up for their newsletter to stay informed on upcoming programs, special discounts, and more. By getting involved, you’re not just supporting a local non-profit; you’re also contributing to the ongoing preservation and appreciation of one of our nation’s most treasured natural landscapes.
